Tragedy Strikes Novi Sad as Train Station Roof Collapses

A concrete roof collapsed on Friday over the entrance of a train station in Novi Sad, Serbia, causing the death of at least eight people. Four others were seriously injured, while two people remain trapped under the rubble. The rescue efforts for those trapped are complicated and are expected to take several more hours, reported Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic described the event as a 'black Friday' for the country and mentioned that the roof was built in 1964. An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the collapse and establish responsibilities. The state railway company of Serbia confirmed that the incident occurred around noon.

At the accident site, ambulances, emergency teams, and heavy machinery are working together to remove the debris and rescue potential survivors. Surveillance camera images show how the concrete roof unexpectedly fell on the people who were at the entrance of the station, which had been recently renovated. The collapsed structure was not part of the reconstruction work.
